maydi frankincense

We offer distilled frankincense essential oil from only these two Bowsellia species: 1. Boswellia Frereana* 2. Boswellia Carterii *Boswellia Frereana produces a very high-quality grade known in the trade as Maydi Frankincense (where we take our namesake) and is our proudest regional export. It is otherwise known as the King of Frankincense, possessing the same legendary stature in the trade as the Omani Hojari and Yemeni Aden grades (both produced from Boswellia Sacra). The three most important things to know about our frankincense oils are: 1. We only use the finest quality gum and resins to produce the distillate 2. We only use one species to produce each batch. 3. We only use one grade to produce each batch. This is how we can guarantee consistency in the aroma profile of each batch. Batches from different species and grades are NEVER mixed together unless specifically requested. All our frankincense essential oil is made solely from frankincense grown and harvested from our own farm in Somaliland. Only one species and one grade of frankincense is used in each batch of oil we produce, so we can guarantee consistency in the aroma profile. We have been successful frankincense traders for more than a decade now, and have now bought a brand new facility so we can produce our own essential oils. Our facility is brand new (as of 2011). We use the latest distillation technologies to produce the purest and highest quality frankincense distillate possible. Our team is highly trained and experienced in industrial distillation methods. The equipment is made from stainless steel, and customized specifically for distilling frankincense using the latest in scientific research. For example we’ve found that frankincense needs to be continuously agitated to prevent clumping (which impedes the release of the aromatic compounds we want). We use a special low-pressure, low-temperature steam distillation method to produce the oil. This ensures that the oil retains as much, and as many of the delicate aromatic compounds as possible (such as pinenes, mycrenes, limonenes and others too numerous to mention here). While some manufacturers sell mere boswellic acid (the main constituent of frankincense resin), we sell the pure essence of frankincense (possessing much more complex aroma). Each batch is distilled just once, for up to an entire day (to give enough time to release the delicate aromatic compounds). Just like the finest virgin olive oils in the world, the best essential oils come from the first (and only the first) processing. Every batch of distillate is thoroughly tested using gas chromatography (and each batch is accompanied with a GC/MS certification). This ensures all our oils conform to the highest international standards, while retaining maximum purity. Top quality frankincense is edible, so we take great care to ensure the essential oils we produce can also be used safely (all batches are guaranteed to be therapeutic grade). Every batch is measured, dated and labeled with all the required details, and the frankincense used to produce it can be traced back to its specific location of harvest. We then create a Certificate of Authenticity that is independently verified and signed-off by a third party for easy authentication and tracking. The finished oils are then packaged using inert opaque glass or aluminum bottles under controlled atmosphere. We store all our oils in a temperature and light controlled environment to ensure maximum potency. Of course using the latest technologies and best production methods in the world means nothing, unless you start with the very best ingredients. Our Ultimate Advantage Unlike other frankincense essential oil producers, we know exactly where our frankincense comes from, because we produce all the frankincense we use to distill our frankincense oil ourselves. Our mantra: “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors—we borrow it from our children”
