Bio Agens Research & Development - BARD, s.r.o.

In 2006 Bio Agens Research and Development (BARD) Ltd. was formed to undertake research, development and production of microbial products with active ingredients for use in human and veterinary care. This research has followed on from the original company BioPreparaty Ltd. which developed a research program and developed products for use in agriculture utilising the Pythium Oligandrum microorganism. In 2010, the company owners Mr Suchanek and Mr Klimes at Bio Agens Research and Development, BARD, Ltd. obtained a patent for the use of the Pythium oligandrum organism in their products. Pythium oligandrum is part of the Chromista – Stramenopila genus, which represents a cross between a fungi and algae. The organism itself was discovered in the 1930's by American scientist Dr. Charles Drechsler, who found that Pythium oligandrum is a definite predator that attacks only other fungi. In the 1960's Pythium oligandrum was isolated from the soil by Czech scientist Dr. Dasha Vesely and he began to explore and test this microorganism in agriculture. At the end of the 1990's the company Biopreparaty Ltd. was formed and they focus predominantly on research and production of biological agents to protect plants against fungal diseases utilising the Pythium Oligandrium microorganism. Pythium oligandrum is a microbial predator that lives in a humid environment which is also an optimal environment for the formation of fungi i.e. yeasts & moulds. Pythium lyses with these pathogens and draws on them for its survival & nourishment. Nil known ill or side effects have been recorded from utilising the Pythium microorganism and in particular does not affect immunocompromised patients and children.
